Android Emulator on Mac: Monthly Subscription or Lifetime License, What Really Changes
Updated on · The MACOS EMULATOR team
Monthly subscription or lifetime license: with MACOS EMULATOR, that is the only real decision to make before installing the Android emulator on your Mac. Both plans open the same app, with the same settings. What sets them apart is how you pay and what happens at the end. Here is what each one changes, what they share, and how to switch from one to the other.
Two plans, one app
The monthly plan renews every month, with no commitment, and you can cancel it at any time. The lifetime license is paid once, has no renewal date and never expires. Both give you the full launcher with updates included, under the same rule: one license covers one Mac.
In the launcher, nothing tells them apart: same “Play” button, same settings, same keyboard controls. In Settings, the “Subscription” card shows “Active subscription.”, lifetime license included. Only the badge at the top of the window differs: with the monthly plan, it counts the days left until the end of the period (“N days left”); with the lifetime license, it simply says “Subscribed”.
What the lifetime license changes
- One payment, no renewal date. In your customer area, the card is called “My licence”, and its Renewal line reads “None, yours for life”.
- Nothing to cancel: no “Cancel subscription” button, no next renewal, no monthly payment that could fail.
- App updates included, for life.
- Priority support, on top of everything the monthly plan includes.
What the monthly plan lets you do
The monthly plan comes with no commitment. You cancel it whenever you like, in one click, from your customer area: “Cancel subscription”.
- You keep access until the end of the current period. The “Next renewal” line becomes “Ends on”, followed by the date, and the launcher’s “Subscription” card announces that access ends at the end of the period.
- Changed your mind? “Reactivate subscription” remains available until that date.
- After that, your license key simply deactivates: nothing else to do.
- The “Payment & invoices” button gives you access to your payment method and your invoices.
A failed payment, or a subscription that has ended
If a payment fails, the status changes to “Payment overdue” and a “Pay now” button appears in your customer area. Once the invoice is paid, access comes back with the same key: reopen the launcher, or click “Re-check” on the “Subscription” card.
Once a subscription you have stopped reaches its end, its status changes to “Cancelled”. The “Resubscribe” button then starts a new subscription, with a new key sent by email. When you click “Play”, the launcher opens the “Subscription required” window: paste the new key under “Already subscribed? Paste your license key”, then click “Validate”.
What stays the same from one plan to the other
- One Mac at a time. A license covers one active Mac, and the Active Mac line in your customer area shows it: 1 / 1. The “Switch Mac” button works the same way for both plans, and the guide to switching Macs with an emulator details the order to follow. To play on two Macs, you need one license per Mac.
- The license key. It starts with “sub_” in both cases, arrives by email right after payment, and stays in your customer area, with the “Copy the key” button.
- The regular check. The launcher checks your license online and keeps a token valid for 72 hours so you can play without a connection. The lifetime license follows the same rule: the guide to using the emulator offline explains what happens beyond that.
Switching from monthly to the lifetime license
The lifetime license is a separate purchase: it comes with its own license key, and it does not cancel the monthly subscription in progress. So, three steps:
- 1Buy the lifetime license and keep the new key you receive by email.
- 2In the launcher, open Settings, the “Subscription” card, and click “Sign out”: the old key leaves this Mac, and nothing else moves. Then click “Play”, paste the new key into the window that opens, and click “Validate”.
- 3In your customer area, sign in with the monthly key and click “Cancel subscription”. It runs until the end of the period already paid for, then stops.
No need for “Switch Mac”: the new key has its own seat, and your Mac takes it the first time you click “Validate”. Your Android device, your games and your keyboard controls stay where they are.
Which one should you choose?
The monthly plan suits you if you first want to see the emulator run on your Mac and stay in control: you stop whenever you like, with nothing to fill in. The lifetime license suits you if you plan to play on the same Mac for a long time and no longer want to think about renewal dates.
Either way, check your Mac first: an Apple Silicon chip (M1 or later) and macOS 12 or later, in the Apple menu, then About This Mac. Also check that your game allows play in an emulator before paying for anything: nobody can promise that for every game, and the Android emulator on Mac guide explains why.
Frequently asked questions
Does a lifetime emulator license ever expire?
No. It is paid once, with no renewal date: your customer area shows “None, yours for life”. The launcher still checks it online, like a subscription: open it with a connection at least once every three days.
Can I cancel the monthly subscription at any time?
Yes, there is no commitment: customer area, “Cancel subscription”. You keep access until the end of the current period and can reactivate until then. After that, your key deactivates.
Does the lifetime license cover several Macs?
No. Like the monthly plan, one license covers one active Mac. “Switch Mac”, in your customer area, moves it from one Mac to another; to play on two Macs, you need one license per Mac.
If I buy the lifetime license, does my monthly subscription stop on its own?
No. The lifetime license is a separate purchase, with its own key. Cancel the monthly plan in your customer area, signed in with its key, and replace the key in the launcher: Settings, the “Subscription” card, “Sign out”, then the new key when you click “Play”.
Are updates included in both plans?
Yes. The monthly plan includes them, and so does the lifetime license, for life. They arrive the same way: through the launcher’s banner, or with “Download the app” in your customer area.
